Igor was born in Voskresensk, Russia, on December 3, 1960. He was traded for Ray Sheppard to Detroit on October 24, 1996 by San Jose. Last season, Igor set a career record for points with 71 and was tied for fourth on the Red Wings in scoring, and fourth in assists. He was plus or even in 55 of 69 games and recorded 17 multiple point outings. In his career, Igor was drafted by Vancouver in 1986 as the 214th overall pick. He played one season in Switzerland before being acquired by San Jose. He earned Soviet Player of the Year honors in 1987-88 and was named to five All-Star Teams with the Central Red Army Team. Igor is an accomplished veteran of various international competitions with the Soviet National Team, including capturing Gold Medals at both the 1984 and 1988 Winter Olympics and the Gold Medal in 1983 World Championships. He was the centerman on the famous KLM line with Vladimir Krutov and Sergei Makarov during the 1980's.
